Sensenich has begun shipping pre-order purchases of its new carbon composite ground-adjustable-pitch propeller following the propeller’s receipt of a supplemental type certificate (STC) earlier this month.
The propeller is designed to fit on Piper Super Cubs equipped with Lycoming O-320 engines and delivers improved responsiveness. It features stainless steel blade leading-edge protection and lower weight in addition to the pitch-adjustment capability. During flight testing for the certification process in Alaska and Texas, the carbon propeller helped the Super Cub achieve maximum performance in various harsh operating conditions.
Sensenich—which began manufacturing wooden propellers in the 1930s—is working on STCs for similarly performing and weight-reducing propellers for other aircraft types. These include O-320-powered Cessna 172s and aircraft powered by 65- to 140-horsepower Continental and Lycoming engines.
