SkyRecon Launches Multi-protocol Live Traffic Display

SkyRecon has developed a portable ADS-B In receiver incorporating a display that shows live traffic. The SkyRecon receiver will be available in the first quarter of 2026, and the company is accepting preorders for the €699 (about $808) device with a €100 deposit.

The new receiver offers the flexibility of viewing traffic on its display or coupled with a tablet app capable of using the GDL90 protocol. This simplifies cockpit setup and can reduce the number of devices that a pilot needs to carry.

Along with live traffic, the SkyRecon receiver includes carbon monoxide detection and alerting. Live traffic comes from ADS-B Out signals in both the 1090 and 978 MHz frequency bands, but the device also displays supplemental traffic information from aircraft without ADS-B. This is done via SkyRecon’s SafeSky network, which monitors 15 traffic protocols. This is especially useful in Europe, where smaller aircraft aren’t required to carry ADS-B Out equipment.

According to the company, “When connected, we pull traffic data from the SafeSky servers, which include most of the Mode A, Mode C, and Mode S traffic in addition to a variety of other more niche traffic sources such as paragliding or parachuting apps. Combining the supplemental traffic with the ADS-B receiver provides the user with a much more comprehensive picture of the traffic around them.” Lifetime SafeSky service is included in the SkyRecon price.
