Spanish pilot training organization European Flyers has ordered 12 of Tecnam’s P2010 TDI aircraft. Valued at €7 million ($8.2 million), the contract was signed with the Italian manufacturer at the Aero Friedrichshafen show in Germany last week.
The P2010 TDI, which received EASA type certification in October 2020, is powered by a single 170-HP Continental CD-170 diesel engine, supporting a cruise speed of 140 knots and with a fuel burn of just over 5 gallons per hour. Its cockpit features the Garmin G1000 NXi avionics suite.
With flight schools in Madrid and Alicante, European Flyers currently operates a fleet of 14 aircraft, including a mix of Cessna 172s and Diamond DA42 NGs. It is affiliated with the Polytechnic University of Madrid’s aeronautical management degree program.
European Flyers said it is targeting full decarbonization of its flying by 2050. According to Tecnam, flight schools using its single- and twin-engine aircraft can save up to 10 tonnes of carbon dioxide for each student completing a commercial pilot license course.
“An investment of this scale reflects European Flyers’ ambition to provide its students with the most advanced technology on the market and to strengthen our leadership in aviation training in Spain,” said the organization’s managing director, Luis Miñano.
