The Bell TH-57 SeaRanger has had a remarkable career, providing the U.S. Navy with more than half a century of service as its basic helicopter training platform.
But for the TH-57, which was first delivered in 1968, that era is coming to an end with the delivery of the first of its replacements last month. In January 2020, the Navy announced that it had selected the TH-119, Leonardo Helicopters’ entrant into the contest to replace the venerable SeaRanger.
The TH-73A is based on the commercial AW119Kx and is fully FAA-approved for single-engine IFR flight. Power comes from a Pratt & Whitney PT6B-37A turboshaft, and the helicopter is equipped with dual safety/hydraulic systems and Genesys Aerosystems digital avionics.
