Description

Newly established FAR Part 107 sets the regulations for the operation of small (less than 55 pounds) unmanned aircraft systems and the certification of their pilots. One of the new rules lowers the maximum operating height for a UAS to 400 feet agl. The new rules also do not allow UAS operations in Class B, C, D and E airspace without ATC permission. These new rules codify the agency’s enforcement authority in Part 101 by prohibiting model aircraft operators from endangering the safety of the U.S. National Airspace System. Part 107 takes effect on August 29.
