To coincide with the effective date of Nov. 5, 2020 for amendments to ICAO’s navigation procedures, the FAA has updated its special requirements for in-flight contingencies over oceanic airspace. Several of these procedures were updated in previous international flight information documents, but with a published effective date of Nov. 5, 2020. For example, starting on November 5, the FAA will require flight crews to report any gross navigation error (GNE) more than 10 nm off course—down from 25 nm now—to align with ICAO’s current definition of GNEs.
