Description
Starting next year, the FAA is proposing to reduce the number of radio frequencies used by flight service stations to communicate with aircraft in flight. Under the proposal, 44 percent (666) of the 1,600 remote communications outlets (RCOs) in the U.S. will be decommissioned. Frequencies especially designated for emergency or military use and those in Alaska are not included in this proposal. The FAA says the current complement of RCOs includes duplicate, overlapping and seldom used frequencies. Comments must be submitted by June 27, 2016.
