U.S.: Fleet-wide Use of Unleaded Avgas

The FAA has issued a draft policy statement that officially authorizes the use of unleaded aviation gasoline in the fleet of piston engine airplanes and helicopters “in a manner that ensures safety via the Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative (PAFI).” Essentially, draft PS–AIR–20–2000 provides the process for approving the piston aircraft fleet as a whole in lieu of obtaining individual aircraft model STCs. Public comments on PS–AIR–20–2000–DRAFT must be submitted by Dec. 5, 2022.
