Description
The FAA proposes to amend the regulatory definitions of certain air carrier and commercial operations by adding powered-lift aircraft to these definitions. This would ensure the appropriate sets of rules apply to air carrier and certain other commercial aircraft operations of aircraft that the FAA defines as powered-lift. The FAA also proposes to apply the rules for commercial air tours to powered-lift aircraft. A powered-lift aircraft takes off and lands vertically but uses a fixed wing for horizontal flight. Like helicopters, these aircraft do not need a runway to take off and land, but they have a speed and performance similar to standard fixed-wing aircraft. Comments on the proposal are due by Feb. 6, 2023.
