The UK’s Connected Places Catapult is looking to select up to a dozen small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to participate in its second Future of Air Mobility Accelerator (FoAM) program. The six-month program—which is also backed by Future Flight Challenge, an initiative run by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)—will provide successful entrants with support from a consortium of industry, academic, and regulatory partners to evaluate disruptive solutions for advanced air mobility.

The main areas of work covered by the 2022 FoAM program are future airport and vertiport operations, aviation sustainability, future air and space traffic management, and enabling end-to-end mobility. The SMEs will receive support to help them secure investment and develop technology and products. They will also be introduced to aviation stakeholders and prospective customers.

The organizations represented in this year’s FoAM consortium include government-backed UKRI, eVTOL aircraft developer Supernal (owned by Hyundai), GKN Aerospace, London Heathrow Airport, the UK Civil Aviation Authority, Cranfield University, and Coventry University.

On August 23, Connected Places Catapult will hold a webinar to explain the FoAM application process. In addition this event will summarize the vision for the program and will feature presentations from the consortium partners on the challenges that have been set this year.

The deadline for FoAM applications is September 11.
