Joby Teams with SK Telecom To Develop Plans for South Korean eVTOL Air Taxi Network
Telecommunications group SK Telecom will support Joby's efforts to establish ride-hailing eVTOL flight services in South Korea as part of the Korean Urban Air Mobility plan, launched by the Asian country's government in 2020. Plans call for Joby's commercial flights to use SK's T Map Mobility platform and the UT ride-hailing service that it launched in 2021.
GE Aviation and Boeing Join Forces to Prepare Hybrid-Electric Flying Testbed
Building on an October 2020 agreement with NASA, GE Aviation is stepping up the development of a hybrid-electric propulsion system that could be used either to retrofit existing aircraft or power new designs. Boeing's Aurora Flight Sciences subsidiary will help to prepare a Saab 340 twin turboprop regional airliner to be used as a flying testbed that will use both a pair of GE's CT7-9B engines and a combined electric motor/generator unit with batteries to store electric power.
Texas Testing Zone Offers Advanced Air Mobility Innovators Real-World Experience
It's one thing to test new eVTOL aircraft and autonomous vehicles in remote desert areas, but quite another to see how these will perform in more populated environments that are closer to where these modes of transportation will likely earn their livings. The Mobility Innovation Zone at Fort Worth Alliance Airport was conceived by real estate group Hillwood with just this sort of challenge in mind, and it's looking to attract more aviation pioneers to incubate technology there.
Bell Trials with NASA Move APT Autonomous Cargo Vehicle Toward Commercialization
Bell executives are pleased with the maturation of its Autonomous Pod Transport and believe the program is ready for pilot partnerships and commercialization in the air freight sector. As part of the maturation and in conjunction with NASA, Bell recently tested its capabilities in complex airspace using ground-based radar sensors in flight trials conducted at the AllianceTexas Mobility Innovation Zone in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Jaunt Broadens Access Skyways eVTOL Initiative with Airport Group Avports
U.S. airports group Avports says it has joined Jaunt Air Mobility's Access Skyways initiative as part of its wider commitment to making air transport more environmentally sustainable. It will work with the eVTOL aircraft developer and other expert partners to prepare the complex array of infrastructure and service and support provisions needed to support commercial operations with electric aircraft.
Archer Says Feds' Decision Not to Prosecute Employee Boosts Its Defense of Wisk Lawsuit
In a lawsuit due to go to trial in San Francisco in early 2023, Wisk alleges that its former employee Jing Xue misappropriated trade secrets relating to its sixth-generation eVTOL aircraft design and gave these to its rival Archer. But the U.S. Department of Justice has now said it will not prosecute Jing following a joint investigation with the FBI. Wisk and Archer disagree on how this development may impact the civil case.
Japanese Leasing Group Fuyo Invests in Bye's Planned Electric Aircraft
Tokyo-based Fuyo says it plans to more than triple the number of aircraft in its leasing portfolio but has not explicitly said these will include Bye Aerospace's eFlyer electric aircraft. The development timeline for Bye's eFlyer 2 and 4 light aircraft appears to have slipped by at least two years, based on the latest projections as to when flight testing for FAA Part 23 type certification will get underway.
Zeva Seeks Investment for Wing-body eVTOL
A recent initial hover flight in Washington state provided the first glimpse at Zeva's distinctive, disc-shaped wing-body eVTOL design. Now the start-up is seeking at least $50 million in further capital investment to advance its plans to expand flight testing and development work on the Zero vehicle under an FAA experimental license.

A recent initial hover flight in Washington state provided the first glimpse at Zeva's highly-distinctive, disc-shaped wing-body eVTOL design. Now the start-up is seeking at least $50 million in further capital investment to advance its plans to expand flight testing and development work on the Zero vehicle under an FAA experimental license.
Joby Seeks Clearance for Public eVTOL Flight Demonstrations in San Francisco
Joby's planned test flights in and around San Francisco Bay would represent the first time its four-passenger eVTOL aircraft has been seen flying in public and also in an urban area. The company has confirmed reports that it is seeking clearance for the flights from federal and local authorities.
