Aviation Capital Group Offers $1 Billion To Support Volocopter eVTOL Leases

A $1 billion finance deal with Aviation Capital Group is expected to provide liquidity for Volocopter to produce its eVTOL aircraft family and lease some of the vehicles to other operators. The German company's core business model envisages it having full control of planned commercial air taxi services, with some involvement by operating partners.

Doroni Starts Construction of Full-Scale H1 Personal eVTOL Aircraft

Doroni Aeropsace is targetting its two-seater H1 eVTOL aircraft mainly at the personal transportation market, with the expectation that operators will not need a full pilot's license under light-sport aircraft rules. A full-scale prototype is expected to start flight testing in 2022 with the company trying to fast-track to production by 2024.

Israel Approves First UAS for Unrestricted Operations in Civil Airspace

Israel's civil aviation authority claims that its type certificate allowing Elbit's Hermes Starliner uncrewed aircraft system to operate without restrictions alongside piloted aircraft in civilian airspace is a world-first in terms of the regulation of autonomous aircraft. The UAS is a derivative of the Israeli company's Hermes 900 military UAS and has been adapted to include additional safety systems required for civil approval.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Developer HyPoint Opens UK Development and Production Site

HyPoint says its use of compressed air to cool hydrogen fuel cells means that the technology will deliver three times greater power-to-weight ratios than alternative liquid-cooled systems. As part of its plans to support hydrogen-powered aircraft with partners ZeroAvia and Piasecki, it expects to achieve seven times the energy density of current batteries, and by 2025 specific power capacity could reach 3,000 W/kg, which would support narrowbody airliners.

Destinus Wins Backing for Hydrogen-powered, Autonomous Hypersonic Aircraft

Destinus has raised $29 million to support work on twin propulsion systems that will support subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic flight in an autonomous hyperplane it aims to bring to market by 2027. Initially, the autonomous, "near-space" aircraft will carry cargo but later plans envisage passenger flights at speeds that would allow it to reach anywhere in the world in just one or two hours.

New Owners To Resurrect Jetcruzer Aircraft with Electric Propulsion

The Jetcruzer 450 and 500 fixed-wing aircraft have been mothballed since 2004 but could now be resurrected with electric and hybrid-electric propulsion. The new owners of the prototypes and associated intellectual property are seeking investors to finance efforts to bring the fresh versions to market.

MagniX Teams with Brazil's Desaer on Hybrid-electric Regional Airliner

Under the partnership announced on February 8, electric-propulsion specialist MagniX would collaborate with Desaer on an ATL-100H hybrid variant that would be powered by two magni350 electric-propulsion units and two turboprop engines. The aircraft is mainly intended to serve as a regional airliner in the same class as 19-seaters like the Dornier Do-228.

Leonardo Will Make Fuselage for Vertical's VX4 eVTOL Aircraft

Vertical Aerospace's eVTOL program partners already include Rolls-Royce, GKN Aerospace, Honeywell, Solvay, and Microsoft, and a new agreement will see Leonardo making composite fuselages for its VX4 aircraft. The announcement signals the Italian aerospace and defense group's intention to enter the advanced air mobility sector.
