Collins Aerospace, formed in 2018 when UTC Technologies acquired Rockwell Collins, has broad capabilities spanning avionics, flight control systems, autopilots, and electric propulsion. So far, its main engagement with the advanced air mobility sector has been through contributing communications and connectivity technology to programs focused on air traffic management challenges for new manned and unmanned aircraft. It also offers lightweight electromechanical actuators that can be scaled to fit eVTOL aircraft.
Wright Reports Progress On Propulsion System For Electric Airliner
Wright Electric aims to develop a propulsion system that could be all-electric, hybrid-electric or hydrogen-powered, and able to support plans for a single-aisle airliner. The company has had early discussions with airlines including low-cost carrier EasyJet, and is open to making its propulsion technology available to an aircraft manufacturer wanting to bring a new aircraft into commercial service with up to around 186 seats.
Jaunt Opts To Design and Build eVTOL Aircraft In Canada
Jaunt Air Mobility says it is on track to start test-flying a full-scale prototype of its five-seat eVTOL aircraft in 2023, as it targets type certification under existing Part 29 rules by 2026. The company, which already has provisional purchase commitments from customers such as Italian air taxi operator Walle, is supported by partners including BAE Systems and the Triumph group.
Investors Back Regent's Plans For All-electric Wing-in-ground-effect Seaglider
Once Regent's seaglider enters the water, the vehicle takes off and glides above the surface at speeds of up to 180 mph. The Boston-based company, which has raised $9 million in seed funding, has built a one-quarter scale prototype of the wing-in-ground-effect vehicle and intends to start testing this before the end of 2021. The vehicle will be certified under International Maritime Organization rules.
Work Starts on Canada's Air Traffic Management Network for Advanced Air Mobility
Vancouver, on Canada's Pacific coast, is set to be an early adopter of advanced air mobility services and is the main focus of a project to develop automated air traffic management infrastructure to support eVTOL flights. Wisk Agrees to Operate Autonomous eVTOL Air Taxi Flights for Blade
Blade Urban Air Mobility does not directly acquire the aircraft used to provide flights for its customers but instead convinces partner operators to make the investment. Under the Agility Prime program, the U.S. Air Force's Afwerx unit is assessing the suitability of new electric aircraft for a variety of military missions. ZeroAvia acknowledged that the accident will disrupt the completion of the HyFlyer 1 project using a six-seater Piper M Series aircraft equipped with its hydrogen propulsion system. However, it is pressing ahead with plans to certify commercial aircraft with between 10 and 50 seats.
